My passion for living a healthy and active lifestyle is no secret. Getting a serious sweat on makes me feel alive. However, like many people, I can easily get bored in my workouts. Over the past couple years, I’ve found a great weekly routine that mixes up the sweat sessions, keeps me motived, and all round kicks my ass.
Let’s get one thing straight. Cardio is my nemesis. Put me on a treadmill and 10 minutes in, I am DONE. I get so bored on there! Luckily, I have an amazing spin studio in my neighbourhood, The Sweat Lab. The spin instructors are amaze and motivate us like nobody’s business! There are seriously days that I am dragging my butt and 5 minutes into a class my energy has skyrocketed. I love the constant lighting changes, the break (non-break) for your weight track, and the mix of pace for each song. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not uncommon for me to question if I will get out of there alive. But when I do (and I always do) I feel FANTASTIC.
I used to do a lot of weight training, which was fine, but again, after years of the same old moves I was getting bored and lacking results. My new(er) fav workout to tone every inch of my bod?? Barre class. Barre is a mix between ballet, yoga and pilates. And I promise you, after what feels like one million “pulses”, you will shake, you will feel every muscle working, and you will see the results. My two fav studios to pop into are Barre Body & The Sweat Lab. What I love so much about these classes is that they are ALWAYS changing. New moves means I am constantly surprising my body, and I will say barre has toned me more than any other workout I’ve done before. Not to mention how fun it is! And I LOVE the group of women (and occasionally men!) who support each other every day through sweat, pulse and tucks.
I have a hard time taking a day off of a workout, but I know it’s important for my body to chill out. Often on my “off” days, my fiancé and I will hit up an amazing Sunday night Hot Yoga session at Karma Yoga here in Calgary. Now, I know this isn’t technically a break, but nothing feels as good as a SERIOUS detox sweat and deep stretch to kickstart your week. We both have extremely busy schedules and yoga forces us to slow our minds. Plus, such a fun way to spend time together as a couple!
Now that the weather is also warming up, I love to get out and run the pathways in Calgary. Some of my fav routes include Edworthy Park around to Crowchild Trail, and Prince’s Island Park to Crowchild Trail. It’s super motivating to see the other runners on the paths and a great way to spend some time outside and get that Vitamin D we may have been lacking all winter!
I have to give a shout out to Alo Yoga for making these amazing High Waist Moto leggings I bought online at Sweat Society – great to sweat but also look super fab with my sneakers and leather jacket!
So get that blood moving, sweat pouring and heart pounding! I would love to hear your favourite workouts too!
